CAIRO, June 29 (MENA) – The cabinet’s media center denied reports circulated about the government's intention to impose new taxes on employees to fund the wage increase that has been approved as part of the 2019/2020 state budget.

In a statement released Saturday, the center said it has contacted the Ministry of Finance, which totally dismissed these reports, stressing that no taxes are being imposed on employees.

No new taxes are levied without a legislation from the House of the Representatives, the ministry said.

It added that a sum of EGP 31 billion has been allocated to finance the increase in the minimum wage for state employees.

The ministry also called on media outlets to verify the authenticity of such news, which may lead to provoking the public opinion and fueling the people’s anger.
