CAIRO – 28 June 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi called for activating cooperation between China and African countries, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

In the African-Chinese mini summit held on Friday on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan, President Sisi called for establishing active partnership to find best ways for funding the infrastructure projects in African continent such as creating a trade shipping route starting from Lake Victoria in Central Africa to the Mediterranean Sea, also known as the VICMED project.

President Sisi also shed light on the importance of the Suez Canal Corridor and logistic industrial zones to enhance the Chinese initiative, “Belt and Road”, which aims to boosting trade, investments, and infrastructure in than 150 countries in Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The initiative is a revival to what was known as “The Silk Road.”

President Sisi headed to Japan on Thursday to participate in the two-day G20 Summit, which kicked off Friday, as he leads the African Union this year.

Sisi will participate in a working session on global economy, trade and investment, as well as a special thematic session that focuses on innovation, digital economy and artificial intelligence.
