SIWA, June 23 (MENA) - The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) began on Sunday installing a drip irrigation network covering 30 feddans in Siwa Oasis as a model for water consumption.

The UN organization also provided a meteorological station to measure temperature degrees, wind speed, solar radiation, humidity and evaporation in newly reclaimed areas in Siwa.

The FAO efforts come as part of a project aiming at upgrading irrigation systems and securing sustainable management of water resources. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Agriculture Ministry.

The project was launched in February of 2018.

Meanwhile, the UN organization held a course to train 75 farmers in Siwa on good cultivation methods.
