CAIRO - 30 May 2019: Advisor Marwa Hisham Barakat, the daughter of assassinated General Prosecutor Hisham Barakat, expressed her happiness after the Egyptian authorities received terrorist Hisham Ashmawy from the Libyan forces.

On May 29, the Libyan National Army handed over ex-military and terrorist Hisham Ashmawy to forces linked to the Egyptian General Directorate (GIS) during Egypt's Intelligence chief visit to Libya.

The Court of Cassation upheld in November 2018 death sentences against 10 convicts in the case of assassinated General Prosecutor Barakat and considered the appeals of 67 defendants.

The executed individuals were convicted of bombing the convoy of late Hesham Barakat on June 15, 2015 during the holy month of Ramadan. The perpetrators were charged with deliberate and premeditated killing, possession of prohibited weapons, and explosives acquisition.

The appealed rulings included death and life sentences as well as 10-year-terms in prison. On April 19, the Court of Cassation rejected appeals by 46 convicts in the same case upholding their enlistment as terrorists for three years.
