CAIRO – 8 April 2019: During his visit to Guinea, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received the National Order of Merit, the highest award in Guinea, said Egyptian presidential spokesperson BassamRadi in a statement on Monday morning.

"I am pleased and grateful to receive this high order, which represents a historic bond of relations between both countries," President Sisi said in his speech to his Guinean counterpart Alpha Condé at a dinner banquet in Conakry.

President Sisi also invited Condé to visit Cairo in the nearest future, Radi added. President Sisi is the first Egyptian president to pay Guinea an official visit since 1965. Sisi started an overseas tour that includes Guinea, United States, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.

During the one-day visit, President Sisi held a bilateral discussion with Condé. Both leaders agreed to enhance bilateral relations and ways of investments through the ministerial joint committee meeting due in September 2019.

President Sisi affirmed his country's technical support for the Guineans in all sectors, particularly in the security and military fields within the framework of the military cooperation protocol signed between both countries in November 2018, Radi said in a statement on Sunday.

Sisi and Condé discussed the file of energy through activating the African Initiative for Renewable Energy, the statement added.

The meeting tackled regional, international and African issues of mutual concern, particularly upgrading the African Union's role in light of Egypt's presidency of the union.

On Sunday, Sisi and Condé unveiled a statue of Late Egyptian President Gamaal Abdel Nassr at a university named after President Sisi.
