CAIRO - 6 April 2019: A high-profile criminal was announced dead on Friday after an exchange of fire with police forces in Minya governorate.

The police received information that the fugitive was hiding near Samalut city, west of Minya.

The forces validated the tip-off and moved where the criminal was hiding. However, shortly after the forces arrived, the suspect started opening fire to resist his arrest.

Earlier on March 7, Police forces managed to neutralize seven terrorists in Giza during fire exchanges in two separate locations, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The neutralized elements reportedly belonged to the Islamist militant group, Hasm Movement.

The police targeted the elements as security investigations revealed they had planned to trigger a bomb in Giza, the statement read.

Three elements of Hasm Movement started shooting at policemen who attempted to approach their car, injuring a police officer. Police personnel managed to neutralize the elements and seize their weapons and improvised explosive device inside their vehicle.
