CAIRO - 8 March 2019: Pierre Krahenbuhl, commissioner-general of the UNRWA, expressed his appreciation for the vital role played by Egypt in supporting the agency and its efforts in the Palestinian issues, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.

Krahenbuhl, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), expressed on Wednesday his hope for continuing coordination and consultation with Egypt during the coming period.

This came during his meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on the sidelines of the 151st session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, held in the Arab League.

For his part, Shoukri appreciated the important role played by UNRWA in supporting and alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian refugees, Hafez said. Shoukri also welcomed the efforts exerted by Krahenbuhl to ensure that the agency continues to provide education, health and relief services for Palestinian refugees.

In February, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry underlined rejection of attempts to marginalize the Palestinian cause, stressing continued support for the Palestinians to claw their legitimate rights back.

Khaled Radi, the head of the Palestinian directorate at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, made the remarks during the inauguration of an annual meeting of the board of trustees of the Yasser Arafat Foundation.

Radi underscored the key role played by the foundation in entrenching the Palestinian identity among Palestinian children and supporting women and youths' projects.

The Palestinians seek to obtain their legitimate rights, topped by establishing an independent Palestinian state, he said, citing the huge challenges facing the Palestinian cause.

He said Egypt has always been keen on accentuating that comprehensive and just peace is the only way to realize peace and development.

He stressed that Egypt will spare no effort to unify the Palestinians to get back their usurped rights, lauding Arab efforts to support the financially-strapped UNRWA.
