UN organizations commit to supporting development in Egypt

CAIRO - 4 June 2017: UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP representative Richard Dictus clarified that Egypt is of great importance to the United Nations due to its important role in the region, referencing Egypt's temporary membership in the UN Security Council and its pioneer commitment to peacekeeping efforts as one of the world’s greatest contributors to UN forces.

In a meeting with Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs Hisham Badr and representatives from all UN organizations and agencies in Egypt, Dictus asserted his sincere intention to increase cooperation with the Egyptian government during the next juncture in order to achieve Egypt's objectives.

Meanwhile, UN representatives reviewed the objectives that they aspire to achieve in Egypt through projects due to be implemented during the upcoming period.

A number of economic and social issues were tackled during the meeting, such as different means of promoting investment in Egypt and empowering women, youth and children through the provision of necessary social services.

For his part, Badr hailed efforts exerted by the UN organizations in Egypt, expressing hope to increase UN agency presence here, pointing out that the new Administrative Capital currently under construction will provide opportunities for more effective work.

Badr discussed Egypt's priorities regarding sustainable development objectives in 2030, especially for combating poverty, creating job opportunities, rationalizing energy usage and improving education and the health sector in general.

Badr also emphasized increasing coordination between UN organizations in Egypt and the Egyptian Foreign Ministry as the national point of contact according to the prime minister’s directives.
