ADDIS ABABA, Feb 9 (MENA) – First Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Stephen Masele underscored the importance of Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The PAP and the African Union (AU) will support Cairo and closely coordinate with it in the coming stage, Masele told MENA ahead of the AU Summit, slated for Sunday and Monday.

The Tanzanian MP lauded President Sisi’s efforts and his keenness to support the youth and provide them with opportunities to take part in the decision-making process. These efforts are a model to follow in African states, he added.

He also commended Sisi’s efforts to confront terrorism, noting that the Egyptian leader has great experience in dealing with this phenomenon.

President Sisi has successfully won the war against terrorism in Egypt amid security problems suffered by neighboring countries, such as Libya, in addition to a state of instability sweeping the region, Masele said.

On that score, the PAP vice president praised Cairo’s efforts to help achieve peace and stability in Libya, which he said is a key issue for Egypt and for all African countries.
