CAIRO, 3 Jan 2018: Health Minister Hala Zayed said that 24.5 million citizens underwent the medical checkup included in the initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi under the rubric "100 Million Health" to eradicate Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and chronic diseases.

In statements on Thursday, Zayed said that 11.5 million citizens were tested in the second phase of the initiative, adding that the state aims at reaching all citizens who might have HCV and treating them for free.

As many as 4.3 million people from Cairo underwent the tests, 1.4 million from Menoufia, 1.4 from Sohag, 1.1 million from Kafr el Sheikh, 975,000 from Beni Suef, 628,000 from Ismailia and 629,000 from Aswan, Spokesman of the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said.

The three-phase campaign which started in October 2018 will end in April 2019, he said
