SHARM EL SHEIKH, Dec 8 (MENA) - Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram said that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will attach special importance to women role in Africa after assuming the African Union (AU) presidency in 2019.

Addressing a session on political empowerment of women in Africa, held on the fringe of Africa 2018 Forum convening here, the minister said Egypt has witnessed big changes in the political, economic and social aspects of live.

She said women are heading eight portfolios in the Egyptian government, citing the ministries of investment, environment, tourism, health, planning, immigration and culture which she described as very critical files.

She also highlighted that Egyptian women representation in parliament which exceeded 30 percent of the parliament's seats.

Makram also pressed the need for consolidating efforts among African countries to exchange expertise on the need for enhancing the role of women in the political, economic and social fields.

The minister also pointed out to the role of women in Egypt's political life over the past few years and their high turnout in the elections.
