CAIRO – 26 May 2017: Unknown gunmen, who killed dozens of Coptic Christians in Upper Egypt’s Minya, used three four-wheel drive vehicles in their attack, said the Ministry of Interior in a Friday statement.

The gunmen opened fire arbitrarily at the bus, which was heading to St. Samuel Monastery in the governorate, 140 miles south of Cairo, the statement added.

Twenty-six people were killed and at least 25 others injured in the shooting attack targeted the bus carrying more than 40 Coptic Christians on Friday along Western Desert Road.

The security forces combed and cordoned off the area to pursue the perpetrators, said Interior Minister Assistant for Upper Egypt Affairs Naser al-Abd.

Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar ordered to form forensic team from high security bodies to arrest the perpetrators as fast as possible.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held a security meeting to discuss the issue of Minya attack, directing the cabinet to take all required measures for the treatment of injured people.

Attorney General Nabil Sadek has ordered to open an urgent enquiry into the attack.
