CAIRO - 11 September 2018: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is heading to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Tuesday evening to participate in the ministerial retreat meetings for the reform of the African Union Commission, according to the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abo Zied.

Abo Zeid pointed out that the meetings aim to discuss ways of reforming the union as well as the administrative and financial audit of the UNHCR's work for 2016 and 2017, scheduled for September 12-13.

He indicated that the meetings would discuss the follow-up reports on the reform process of the AU Commission, reviews of the commission’s efficiency, as well as follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations in the future administrative and financial review.

Additionally, the meetings will tackle alternatives to reform the election system and designation of the Commission's leadership system, presenting proposals for the November Institutional Reform Summit of the AU, Abo Zeid added.

The foreign minister will hold bilateral meetings with his African counterparts on the sidelines of the meetings.
