Visitor turnout to Egyptian museums declines by 26% in 2015-2016

CAIRO - 18 May 2017: The number of visitors to art and history museums decreased by 26 percent reaching 3.2 million in 2015-2016 compared to 4.3 million in 2014, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced Thursday.

CAPMAS also added that the revenues reached 63.5 million EGP in 2015 compared to 89.3 million EGP in 2014, emphasizing a 28.9 percentdecline, which is due to the decrease in the number of foreign visitors.

The report also pointed out the number of visitors who went to the natural, and pure and applied science museums which recorded 3.2 million visitors in 2015, while the total revenues of these museums amounted to 52.1 million EGP.

The total number of museums in Egypt reached an overall of 66 museum and have not increased since 2015.
