EEU aims to launch free trade zone with Egypt

CAIRO – 15 May 2017: The Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) intends to set a free trade zone with Egypt and other countries, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.
It was mentionedon the second day of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.

The Russian news agency (TASS) quoted Putin, saying that more than 50 countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America have expressed interest in cooperating with the EEU.
Putin stressed that the union aims to expand its economic scale through cooperation with promising economies in the world.

He added that the Russian-led economic bloc will hold talks with several countries including Egypt, Iran, India, Serbia, Singapore and Israel to conclude a free trade agreement.

The proposed deal is set to develop intraregional economic ties and boost the free flow of goods between the EEU members: Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia.

The EEU is a promising association of states located primarily in northern Eurasia that allows exchange of goods, services, capital and labor.
