CAIRO – 2 May 2018: A sugar factory in Kom Ombo, Aswan caught fire and five people were injured. The fire started in the wood factory affiliated with the sugar factory, and due to the weather conditions, the fire extended to the surrounding areas.

Ten fire engines cooperated to extinguish the fire, in addition to a helicopter sent by the Armed Forces. The fire spread quickly due to the strong wind, which also made it harder for the fire fighters to extinguish the fire.

Ehab Hanafy, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, revealed that Kom Ombo Hospital in Aswan received five injured people, who were discharged after receiving the needed medical treatment.

Three of the injured suffered from suffocation, one person had minor burns on his arms and the last person had fractured his right arm.

Aswan Governor Magdi Hijazi went to the accident scene to check on the current situation and the extent to which the civil protection forces took control of the fire.
