CAIRO – 6 May 2017: The Cairo Criminal Court adjourned the trial of 67 defendants, 51 of whom are held in detention, to May 9, 2017. The trial concerns the assassination of former Attorney General Hisham Barakat.

The defendants face other charges, including joining Hamas militants with the aim of fomenting instability in the Egypt.

In June 2015, Barakat died after a car bomb attack in Cairo while leaving his home. The blast also injured some of his guards.
