CAIRO – 2 April 2018: United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan congratulated Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on Monday for winning re-election against his sole contender, Moussa Moustafa Moussa.

The UAE president wished the Egyptian people progress and prosperity during Sisi’s second term, according to media reports.

Meanwhile, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan have also sent cables congratulating Sisi.

In a press conference on Monday, the National Election Authority (NEA) announced the victory of Sisi over Ghad Party Chairman Moussa Moustafa Moussa in the 2018 presidential election.

President Sisi garnered 97.08 percent of valid votes in the presidential election last week, where more than 21.8 million people voted for him, stated NEA head Lasheen Ibrahim during the press conference on Monday.

Moussa received 656,534 votes, making up 2.9 percent of the valid ballots, Lasheen said. The turnout stood at 24,254,152 voters; 41 percent of the electorate, he added.
