CAIRO -1 April 2018: The ambassadors of Arab countries honored the Saudi Arabian Minister of State for African Affairs Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Kattan on the occasion of the end of his term as Saudi Ambassador to Cairo and Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

The luncheon was held at the Saudi Diplomatic Club overlooking the Nile near the Saudi Embassy on Tuesday afternoon, in appreciation of his efforts concerning Arab countries and the Middle East, according to a statement from the Saudi Embassy in Cairo on Sunday.

On March 2018, Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah Al Sisi had held a ceremony celebrating Kattan’s successful diplomatic mission to Egypt.

Sisi awarded Kattan the Nile Sash, in recognition of his efforts in enhancing Egyptian- Saudi relations over the past 14 years, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Kattan was born in Mecca in 1953, where he lived until he moved to Cairo to attend university and earned his B.A. Cairo University’s Faculty of Political Science and Economics in 1978.

He later returned home to join the diplomatic corps at the Saudi Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1978, before being sent to the Saudi embassy in London where he served as a diplomat from 1982 to 1983.

As he proved himself, Kattan was appointed to join the Saudi diplomatic mission in Washington, U.S. where he held many diplomatic posts in the United States from 1984 until he returned to Cairo in 2005.

In 2013, Kattan was chosen as Dean of the Diplomatic Corps for his accomplishments at the diplomatic and cultural levels.
