CAIRO - 29 March 2018: Presidential candidate Moussa Moustafa Moussa said that the parliamentary results show that he collected about 1.5 million votes in total in the 2018’s presidential elections, after adding Egypt’s expatriates votes.

In statements to Egypt Today on Thursday March 29, Moussa described the parliamentary results as “excellent”, considering that time did not really work for his favor. “I decided to run for the elections too late, and everything else accordingly was not organized perfectly due to shortage of time,” he added.

He explained that he didn’t organize a huge propaganda campaign due to poor financial resources. He also affirmed that he was not thinking about the amount of votes he would attain, but doing the right thing for his country. “I was more concerned with my patriotic duty towards my country. It was not acceptable to leave President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi run alone for the elections giving our country’s enemies the chance to criticize us. The total turnout rate is the perfect response for doubters,” Moussa said.

Moussa assured that he is going to congratulate Sisi for his wining. He added that he is completely ready to cooperate and work with him to achieve the state’s stability and security.

In previous statements to media outlets, Moussa said that the initial indicators of presidential polls showed his defeat, however, “I am pleased with the result.”
Moussa, who was the sole contender of incumbent President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, added that the voting process was positive. He added that the Egyptian people are the actual winners in the election.

Polling stations nationwide started sorting and counting ballots late Wednesday March 28, with initial indicators showing that Sisi obtained about 90 percent of the vote.
