CAIRO - 8 March 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held on Thursday an expanded meeting with the female diplomats at the ministry's headquarters.

Shoukry stressed that the meeting had been held to the honor Egyptian female diplomats and their sacrifices throughout history to defend homeland's interests at the local and international levels, the ministry spokesman said in a press statement on Thursday.

Shoukry also stated that the ministry had for the last 4 years been very keen to increase the number of women in the diplomatic corps, adding that women's empowerment in the policy-making process necessitates stimulating the leading role or women and preventing any gender-based discrimination concerning leadership roles.

Shoukry hailed the success of many Egyptian female diplomats who have managed to take over several leadership roles inside the country or abroad, indicating that there are about 18 female diplomats at diplomatic and consular missions and 7 female plenipotentiaries constituting 24% of the officials holding this title.
