CAIRO – 22 February 2018: A shield of honor was awarded to Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel Aziz on Thursday for his contributions and achievements in the sports field in Egypt.

The shield was handed to Abdel Aziz by Khaled Salah, editor-in-chief of Egyptian influential daily Youm7 and head of the editorial board of Business Today Egypt.

Abdel Aziz’ latest achievement is launching the “Egyptian Sports Support Fund” to support sports in Egypt and put it back on the global sports map by providing proper preparation for Egyptian athletes according to international standards.

The minister affirmed, upon being honored, that the fund came to light after thorough research and study by the Cabinet.

He added that Prime Minister Sherif Ismail was so convinced of the fund that it got announced early, the matter which motivated whoever was agreed responsible for the fund to immediately start acting upon it.

Abdel Aziz pointed out that sports clubs are suffering, especially after the pound floatation, even if the state decided to increase its support to clubs by 25% next year, it will not be of much significance, therefore, the fund poses the only solution for the advancement of sports in Egypt.

It is agreed that the fund, financed by businessmen and public and private authorities, will be sponsoring athletes who will represent Egypt in the Olympics.

Egypt’s leading economics magazine Business Today on Monday held an award ceremony “BT100” to honor top influential figures and companies positively impacting the Egyptian economy in 2017.

The event hosted more than 600 attendees, including state ministers, headed by Finance Minister Amr El-Garhy. It was held under the auspices of a number of pioneering corporate entities from various business sectors.

The ceremony’s awards selection was based on a comprehensive study conducted in accordance with financial and economic standards set by Business Today Magazine’s economic specialists and experts.

The awarded entities were selected based on their overall performance in the past year, impact on the economic progress, stock exchange performance, creativity with practical solutions, sustainable public-private partnerships and alignment with the goals outlined in Egypt 2030 Vision.
