CAIRO – 17 February 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Saturday reviewed national efforts made to uproot terrorism in Egypt as part of the Sinai 2018 comprehensive operation launched by the Armed Forces and police.

Addressing a session of Munich Security Conference, Shoukry said the Egyptian state adopts a comprehensive approach to eliminate terrorism, not limited to the security and military dimension, but extends to all ideological, social and economic considerations.

The minister affirmed the urgent need for more efforts to counter terrorism at the international level, particularly with regard to financing terrorism and the provision of safe havens for terrorists.

He called for holding accountable the states that provide financing for terror groups under the guise of charity works, or facilitate the return and movement of foreign fighters without any regard for regional security reasons and in flagrant violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Shoukry also reviewed Egypt's vision on ways to boost international cooperation to uproot terrorism, said the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

He added that Daesh had nothing to do with the Islamic Caliphate that led the entire humanity to the civilization route.

He reiterated that the only way to confront terrorism will be reached by adopting a unified international approach "away from double standards".
