CAIRO – 18 April 2017: The Parliament will discuss the State Council’s rejection of the judicial authority draft law in the upcoming committee session, said Bahaa Abo-Shaqa, Head of the Parliament's Legislative Affairs Committee.

He told Youm7 that the Parliament respects the State Council’s opinion that deemed the law as unconstitutional and that the committee will discuss all proposals and suggestions.

Abo-Shaqa added that the parliament is not favor of a clash between state institutions.
In March 2017, The House of Representatives approved a draft law on the judiciary and sent it to the State Council, which then sent a final report to the Parliament rejecting the law.

The State Council said the law could be unconstitutional, especially in light of its preparation without the consultation of judges, as stipulated in the constitution.

The law allows the executive authority to appoint the heads of main courts and judicial institutions.

The draft was largely rejected by judges and some members of parliament.
Meanwhile, the media committee of the Judges Club of Egypt said in a statement that it rejects the law and considers it as a major violation of Egypt's judicial system.
