CAIRO – 26 December 2017: Israeli security forces have launched several campaigns to ‘arrest’ and confiscate donkeys, animals in general, owned by Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Israeli forces detained a ‘donkey’ in Jerusalem at pretext of “lacking legal status”, according to a news report published by Palestinian news agency Ma’an on Tuesday.

Donkeys are the main transportation mean for Palestinian farmers in rural areas, such as the outskirts of Bethlehem. Palestinian farmers accuse Israeli authorities of confiscating their donkeys for lacking proper registration or for coming too close to Israeli settlements in the occupied land.

According to the news report, Israeli security forces broke into several private and public facilities in Salwan town, Southern Al-Aqsa Mosque, and filed lawsuits against many civilians on charges of “seizure of animals without Israeli licenses”.

The only explanation for the Israeli confiscation and arrest of animals is related to the so-called "Zoological conspiracy theories" in which Israel believes and justifies the arrest of non-human beings.

In 2010, Israel accused the Egyptian authorities of believing in the "Zoological conspiracy theories" after publishing news reports about Egyptian accusations of capturing Israeli spying eagles, following the December 2010 shark attacks in Egypt.
In July, Palestinian Al-Watan news website posted a video recording that circulated on social media networks and platforms, showing Israeli security forces while they were arresting several donkeys under pretext of "entering military areas without prior permissions".

In August 2016, Palestine Information Center (PIC) published news about confiscation of donkeys from Palestinian farmers in the West Bank by Israeli forces.

On December 20, Israeli forces arrested 17-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed al-Tamimi and her mother in charges of humiliating the Israeli army. Ahed published a video on her Facebook page on Friday, showing her expelling two soldiers from the yard in front of her family house; the video shows her slapping, kicking and pushing one of the soldiers.

On December 6, U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel and announced the relocation of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This decision was condemned and rejected by all Arab and Islamic countries as well as most of Western and Asian countries.

Hundreds of protesters took to streets to denounce the American announcement on Jerusalem in different global cities and capitals.
