CAIRO – 12 December 2017: Former Secretary of the Arab League Amr Moussa said that the United States cannot lead the peace process after it aligned with Israel, adding that the U.S. administration’s involvement in the peace negotiations over the past decade did not result in any progress.

Addressing Palestinian factions in a call-in to Al-Arabiya satellite channel, Moussa advised the factions to unite and to end any divisions.

He suggested that all trials of negotiations done during the last decades were in vain and therefore he called for a new approach to the peace process. Moussa also urged Israel and the U.S. to recognize Palestine as a state.

Jerusalem is of huge importance to both Israelis and the Palestinians. It contains sites sacred to the three major monotheistic faiths - Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

There has been widespread international condemnation of President Donald Trump's decision on Wednesday to reverse decades of U.S. neutrality on the status of Jerusalem which cuts to the heart of the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestine.
