CAIRO - 1 April 2017: Egypt’s Journalists Syndicate will organize a memorial service to mark the third anniversary of killing of journalist Mayada Ashraf, who was fatally shot during covering clashes in 2014, the syndicate said

in a Thursday statement

The memorial service was organized by Press Syndicate’s Freedom Committee and will be held Saturday evening at the syndicate headquarters downtown, the statement added.

22-year-old Ashraf was fatally shot in head during covering clashes between pro-Muslim Brotherhood protesters and security forces in 2014 in Ain Shams, a district in eastern Cairo. A total of 48 defendants, allegedly belong to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, are being tried on charges of killing Ashraf.

On 30 April, the Cairo Court of Appeals will resume the trial of the defendants, who also face charges of killing a minor and a Coptic Christian during the clashes, state-owned news agency

MENA reported
