CAIRO – 7 December 2017: Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb issued a decision that next Friday’s sermon at Al-Azhar Mosque will be on the Arab identity of Jerusalem.

Tayeb called on the whole Islamic world to make next Friday’s sermons on the same issue to defend the rights of Palestinians, as adopted by all international charters and norms.

During his meeting with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Grand Imam warned against some countries’ trends to move their embassies to Jerusalem, saying, “If countries started to move their embassies to Jerusalem, they will suffer,” assuring that stepping forward toward such a move would provoke the anger of all Muslims. This matter could also incite tension, division and hatred across the globe.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa also directed that Friday’s sermons at all mosques across Egypt will be about the same issue of Jerusalem, arguing that all Arabs stand together against all trials to change Jerusalem’s Arab identity.
