CAIRO – 5 December 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian the U.S. administration’s plan to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which was announced on Tuesday.

Over a phone call, the two ministers expressed their hope that the U.S. administration reconsiders its plan before making a final decision, due to its potentially dangerous impact on the region and the peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel.

They also tackled means of coordination for the meeting of the International Support Group on Lebanon, which will be held on Friday in Paris.

Soukry expressed Egypt’s hope for a successful Climate Change Summit, which will be held in Paris in December, and praised France’s continuous efforts in reaching a mutual agreement amongst the international community.

The two officials also discussed the latest developments of bilateral relations between Egypt and France following the visit of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to France in November.
