CAIRO - 2 December 2017: The Mar Girgis Church in Tanta was inaugurated, months after the church was blown up with an explosive belt while performing prayer, on Saturday after renovations were completed.

Large numbers of Christians flocked the church on Saturday morning to attend the first mass in the church since the terrorist attack, amid intense security alert, after the church underwent innovations that were held under the supervision of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces.

On April 9, a blast at Mar Girgis church in Tanta left at least 40 dead and over 70 injured, as it targeted a mass service in celebration of Palm Sunday. Another attack four hours later targeted Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria, resulting in 16 fatalities and at least 40 injuries.
