Sisi, Russian Defense Min discuss boosting military cooperation

CAIRO – 29 November 2017: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Force Minister of Defense, Sedqi Sobhi, received the Russian Defense Minister Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu and his accompanying delegation Wednesday at the Defense Ministry premises where the two countries national anthems were played.

The two officials held a meeting to tackle developments of the region in light of fighting terrorism as well as bilateral efforts to restore security and stability to the Mideast.

They chaired the fourth meeting of the Russian-Egyptian military committee, which discussed a number of issues related to the partnership relations and military cooperation between the two countries. At the end of the meeting the two ministers signed the minute of the committee meeting.

President Abdel Fatah al- Sisi extended his greetings to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in his earlier meeting with Shoygu, underscoring Egypt’s proud of having genuine relations with Russia, and its keenness to endorse this relation at all levels during the next juncture especially in the military field, the presidential spokesperson said on Wednesday.

During his meeting with Sisi, Shoygu voiced his president's condolence to victims of the heinous terrorist attack that hit Al-Rawdah mosque in North Sinai on Friday, stressing Russia’s stance and full consolidation with Egypt in facing terrorism.

The defense minister praised fruitful cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing his country’s interest to activate cooperation and consultations with Egypt to face mutual challenges and boost security and stability in the Middle East.
