CAIRO – 18 November 2017: Khaled Abdel Ghafar, minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, asserted that whoever is known to have caused the crisis of the Nahda University will be punished, according to the law.

Ghafar made the statement during a phone call to “Khat Ahmar” program which airs on Al-Assema channel Friday.

Abdel Ghafar stated that he formed a fact-finding committee to listen to all parties and identify the causes for rising tuition fees after Nahda University students organized demonstrations because of increasing fees.

Abdel Ghafar added that it is not acceptable for university students to hold demonstrations using chains and with unknown masked persons amongst them.

“We fear for the future of our students and that is why the administration has decided to halt all classes and postpone examinations for a week until Saturday, November 18, as we were handling this issue through legal means; ensuring the resumption of the educational process at the university hereafter,” the university’s statement read.
