CAIRO – 6 November 2017: Hala Yousef, the Population Minister, said that forced migration mainly affects women and children as their education process gets interrupted. Female children would be subject to early marriage as the family would prefer educating male children.

Youssef’s comments were made during a session titled “Utilizing Demographic Distribution to Invest in Youth” held at the World Youth Forum (WYF) in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday. The session consisted of a panel discussion on human development and creating opportunities for youth in Africa.

Alexander Sasha, the head of the UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) Egypt, praised the presidential initiatives to combat overpopulation stressing that the focus must be mainly on raising awareness in Upper Egypt.

On the other hand the commissioner for infrastructure and energy at the African Union Commission (AUC) Amani Abou Zeid, shed light on the importance of developing the transportation sector in Africa to boost integration and cooperation. “It is irrational that 80 percent of air transportation between African countries is generated by non-African countries,” she added.
