CAIRO – 5 November 2017: UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner praised the positive energy that is overwhelming the World Youth Forum (WYF) currently being held in Sharm el-Sheikh city.

In his remark before the audience of the WYF, Steiner extended greetings to the Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi as well as youth participating in the event.

“We need to talk and we need to listen, the United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres intended during his office power to give priority to youth,” Steiner said in a speech he delivered on behalf of Guterres.

He added that “We need to achieve peace, we need to be real united nations” noting “if we had been really united nations, we would not have needed for establishing the UN organization.”

Egypt’s first WYF kicked off on Saturday under the auspice of President Sisi. Inaugural activities were held on Sunday.

Hundreds of young people from all over the world flocked to Sharm el-Sheikh, where the WYF being held under the slogan “We Need to Talk.”

The idea to hold an international youth conference in Egypt came during the third National Conference of Youth (NYC) in Ismailya. In July, Sisi announced holding the WYF in Sharm el-Sheikh at the fourth NYC in Alexandria.

The WYF sends a message of peace, prosperity, harmony and love to the entire world.
