CAIRO – 16 October 2017: Three policemen were killed while repelling an armed attack on the National Bank of Egypt branch in Sinai on Monday, a senior official at the Interior Ministry announced.

According to the Middle East News Agency, a group of terrorists attacked the bank and planted five explosive devices in the precincts of the branch, the source added.

Security services of the bank exchanged fire with the terrorists, leaving three policemen dead. A number of terrorists were also killed in the attack.

On October 15, six army troops were killed in a military operation conducted on Sunday in North Sinai against terrorist elements.

During the operation, 24 militants were killed and another one was injured when law enforcement forces thwarted a failed terrorist attempt aimed at targeting checkpoints in al-Qawadis district, North Sinai on Sunday.

Two four-by-four vehicles related to the terrorists were destroyed.

Security forces are still combing the area for any further terrorist hotbed.
