Egyptian authorities charged 67 people over the killing of Hisham Barkat in 2015 - Reuters

CAIRO – 27 September 2017: The Criminal Court of Zagazig sentenced eight members of the Muslim Brotherhood group to life imprisonment and sentenced seven others to 3 years imprisonment on offences relating to being members of a terrorist group and inciting violence.

The defendants were primarily charged with inciting public violence and distributing leaflets against the regime, the possession of burning materials, inflammatory material and carrying out acts of sabotage in the city of Abo Hammad.

Since the ouster of the former Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi in 2013, Egypt has been facing huge spates of violence perpetrated by the former president supporters.
