Cairo – 22 September 2017: Today is the autumn equinox, which marks both the beginnings and ends of some of the most important times of the year.

The moment is important because it is the time when the nights and the day are of exactly equal length. It's the beginning of autumn and a moment on our way towards the winter solstice – the longest night – that marks the beginning of that season, The Independent reported on Friday.

The Hashtag “AutumnEquinox” is now trending on Twitter. Many users are tweeting how they welcome the new season.

A new Google Doodle was launched on Monday to mark the autumn equinox. Google says that Monday's 12-hour day is the case nearly "everywhere in the world" as the sun crosses the equator. Its Doodle features flowers and a bunny rabbit to mark the change in seasons, The Time reported on Wednesday.
