NEW YORK - 20 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held talks Tuesday with Brazilian President Michel Temer on the fringe of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

Sisi stressed Egypt's pride in its distinguished relations with Brazil, praising its development experience and progress at the economic level, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said in a statement.

Sisi expressed Egypt's aspiration to develop relations with Brazil in various fields and activate existing cooperation frameworks, especially in the economic and trade fields, as well as to maximize the benefit of the great potentials of the two countries, he added.

The Brazilian president hailed Egypt's achievements over the past years in promoting stability and economic reform. He also expressed appreciation for the strong ties between the two countries, stressing the importance of pushing forward bilateral cooperation in various fields, the spokesman said.

Temer welcomed the promotion of economic and trade relations between the two countries, noting that there are broad prospects for developing cooperation in these fields, he added.

Youssef said that the talks covered ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

The two presidents welcomed the conclusion of the ratification procedures of the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Mercosur.

The two presidents discussed the possibility of benefiting from Egypt's position as a starting point for Brazilian products to the Arab and African regions, especially in light of free trade agreements linking Egypt with these two regions.

The two Presidents affirmed their keenness to continue coordination between the two countries at international forums, especially on issues of mutual concern, such as counter-terrorism, peacekeeping operations, the Security Council reform, as well as the promotion of joint cooperation in South-South cooperation and the Group of 77.

Temer invited Sisi to visit Brazil, and the invitation was welcomed, the spokesman said.
