CAIRO – 10 September 2017: Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Khaled Abdul Ghaffar will participate, on behalf of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC), first Summit on Science and Technology hosted by Astana, Kazakhstan, on Sunday and Monday.

The four-session summit will be held on September 10 and 11 in Astana, Kazakhstan, in the presence of the members of OIC to face the challenges of food security and energy faced by Islamic states through science and technology, and shape the future of science and technology agenda, to reaffirm Islamic leadership of science and technology, and set objectives and priorities for Islamic countries in science and technology over the next decade.

Parliamentarians, government officials, researchers and experts from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, the Comoro Islands, Pakistan, The Gambia, and the Republic of Mali, among others will share their experiences at the event.

Abdul Ghaffar participated on the sidelines of the summit in a meeting with the ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the member states on September 8 and 9 to set the summit’s agenda and develop the finalizing outcome document of 2026 Organization of Islamic Cooperation for Science, Technology and Innovation.
