CAIRO - 4 Sep 2017: The Muslim Council Of Elders has warned of what it called a world "inaction" regarding the suffering of Muslims in Burma.

The world community is failing to firmly move to stop the killing and displacement of Rohingya Muslims, the council said.

This poses a serious threat to world peace and security, the council warned.

It pointed to double-standard handling of international crises, which could very well foment hate and extremism in the world.

The council called for forming an international investigation committee to commit the Burmese authorities to their humanitarian and legal responsibilities.

The UN and its Security Council should live up to those responsibilities as well, it noted.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslims have been killed or displaced in long years of the crisis.

Muslim governments and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are also urged to quickly act to provide all kind of support for Rohingya Muslims, the Council said.
