4 arrested during archaeological dig in Mansoura

CAIRO – 18 August 2017: Four people were arrested during an archaeological excavation trial inside a house in ‘Tanah’ village, a Mansoura Police officer said Friday.
Dakahlia Security Directorate was reported that some families from ‘Tanah’ village in Mansoura were digging inside a house searching for relics.

Police officers led by Major Ahmed Tawfik, the head of Masoura investigation department immediately rushed to the place. They managed to arrest four workers including, 39-year old man called Haitham; 30-year old man called Hamed and 27-year-old man called Ahmed while they were digging inside an old woman’s house called Boushra. The police found a hole about (1, 5 meters in diameter and 7 meters in depth) with some drilling tools in the ground floor.

However, the accused people denied the charge saying that they were trying to withdraw groundwater from below the house. The prosecution cordoned off the place and assigned the Criminal Investigation Department to carry out investigations for the incident.
