NOUAKCHOTT - 7 August 2017: Mauritanians have approved constitutional reforms that would mean abolishing the country's Senate and changing the national flag.

As many as 85 percent voted in favor of the reforms, the head of the country's Independent National Electoral Commission announced on Sunday night.

The turnout recorded 53.7 percent, he added.

The results will be referred to the Constitutional Council to be officially announced, the electoral commission said.
