CAIRO - 24 April 2026: In alignment with the Egyptian state’s vision to foster human development and enhance national awareness, the Ministry of Culture is making rapid strides in the Sinai Peninsula.
Recognizing Sinai as a cornerstone of the nation’s comprehensive development project, the ministry has transformed culture from a leisure activity into a strategic tool for counteracting extremist ideologies, reshaping public consciousness, and strengthening national belonging.
Since 2014, following the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the ministry has adopted an integrated strategy focused on two main pillars: developing cultural infrastructure and expanding artistic and creative services to reach the deepest border regions.
North and South Sinai have witnessed a historic surge in the establishment and renovation of cultural facilities. To date, nine new cultural sites have been inaugurated as part of the state’s plan to disseminate knowledge across all regions, especially those previously impacted by security challenges. Key projects include:
- Sharm El-Sheikh Culture Palace (2018): Established at a cost of LE18.3 million.
- Arish Culture Palace (2021): A landmark project costing LE 35 million.
- The Summer Theater in El-Tor (2024): A major investment of LE160 million.
- Recent 2025 Openings: Including the Masa'id and Qatiya Culture Houses, the Najila Library for Children and Youth, and the Nakhl Culture Palace.
The ministry’s outreach is not confined to urban centers. The "Valley Convoys" (Qawafl Al-Widian) initiative has successfully delivered cultural services to remote villages and central Sinai. These integrated convoys provide artistic performances, handicraft workshops, and awareness seminars. In the Al-Hasna center of central Sinai, these convoys have become a platform for discovering local talents in singing and theater, while showcasing traditional Sinai handicrafts and hosting mobile book fairs.
The "Ahl Misr" (People of Egypt) project stands as one of the most significant initiatives for border governorates. Between September 2018 and April 2026, the ministry organized 87 cultural forums, including 40 weeks dedicated to children, 24 for youth, and 23 for women. These events combine field visits and educational lectures with artistic workshops to build character from childhood through adulthood. Furthermore, the "Mobile Theater" recently brought musical performances, religious chants, and cultural symposiums to the heart of Arish in March 2026.
The Ministry of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to Sinai’s expansion plan, with upcoming inaugurations scheduled for the Sheikh Zuweid Culture Palace, the Bir al-Abd Culture House, and the Arish Summer Cinema.
This "Cultural Reconstruction Train" signifies a qualitative shift in cultural philosophy—moving beyond traditional activities to a holistic project for human investment. The ministry emphasizes that these efforts on Sinai’s soil are a long-term bet on culture as a force of construction and development, standing equal in importance to any other developmental path in the region.
