BEIRUT - 27 July 2017: British Ambassador to Lebanon Hugo Shorter on Thursday asserted UK's support for the Lebanese armed forces as being Lebanon’s only legitimate defenders.

Hugo pointed out that the Lebanese army is considered to be the only entity capable of acting in line with the Lebanese people’s desire as well as Security Council resolutions.

This came during his meeting with the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Joseph Aoun In attendance of the representative of US ambassador along with senior British diplomats to discuss land Border Security Project.

Shorter affirmed that only a strong country that has strong army will be able to achieve democracy and stability on the long run in Lebanon.

He pointed out that the Lebanese army is carrying out complicated but successful operations against terrorism and it is achieving great advance in securing Lebanon’s borders with Syria.

The international community along with Lebanese people appreciate the army’s efforts over the past decade in developing itself, Shorter added.
