CAIRO – 24 July 2017: The Egyptian Lawyers’ Syndicate raised the Palestinian flag on its building next to the Egyptian flag, following directions from the syndicate’s chairperson, Sameh Ashour.

This initiative by the syndicate represents an attempt to express support to the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people especially following the recent Israel violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque including the closure of the Mosque and the installation of metal detectors on the entrances of the Mosque.

Ashour called on all Egyptian associations, unions and political parties to raise the Palestinian flag in support of the Palestinian people and to reaffirm Egypt’s position on the legitimate right of Palestinians in their own independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

During the General Secretariat of the Arab Lawyers Union in mid-July, the Palestinian Lawyers’ Syndicate Chairperson, Jawad Obeidat, called all members to prioritize the Palestinian cause. Obeidat said: “Enough with statements, statements will not change the situation. If the Israeli violations continue Al-Aqsa Mosque will be lost. All members can pressure their countries to take actions and intervene to solve the situation.”
