CAIRO - 5 June 2023: The data of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) confirmed the decline in the number of births during the last 5 years, which reflects the tangible efforts in confronting the population increase.

The data of the Egyptian Family Health Survey showed that the fertility rate decreased from 3.5 births per woman in 2014 to 2.85 births per woman in 2021.

The data said that, despite this decline, the current number of births is still around 2.2 million annually, draining the state's resources and devouring development efforts.

The data indicated that the current fertility levels (2.85), if stable, would lead to the population of Egypt reaching 119 million in 2030 and 165 million in 2050, while the population would reach 117 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050 if levels decreased.

Childbearing to reach 1.6 children per woman by the year 2042, a difference of 2 million in 2030 and 26 million in 2050, as this requires the concerted efforts of all members of society, civil society organizations and the media in all its forms with state agencies to control the rates of population increase.

This requires the concerted efforts of all members of society, civil society organizations and the media in all its forms with the state agencies to control the rates of population increase, which constitute a burden on the national economy and represent a major challenge to the state’s continuous efforts in the field of development, and generate many economic, social, environmental and security challenges.
