CAIRO – 20 February 2023: The Ministry of Social Solidarity signed Monday contracts with 10 NGOs to contribute to the creation of 50,000 job opportunities by funding micro enterprises for the beneficiaries of Egypt's monetary subsidies program Takaful w Karama.

The value of the total number of funds is LE36.5 million, and will be disbursed to residents of Sharqia, Qalyoubeya, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Menya, Asyut, Sohag, and Luxor. The program consists of delivering both training and capital.

In a similar context, the ministry had launched in January the "Village Without Poverty" initiative targeted at dwellers of the villages included in the "Decent Life" initiative.

The economic empowerment initiative began from Daqahliyah governorate's Hasas village within "Forsa" (opportunity) programme aimed at enabling self-employment among the beneficiaries of Takaful wa Karama, Egypt's monetary subsidies programme.

The first phase of the "Village Without Poverty" initiative consists of financing 1,500 micro enterprises at a total budget of LE15 million as the value of funding allocated to each is LE10,000. The governorates included in that phase are Daqahliyah, Qalyoubiyah, Gharbia, Sharqia, Aswan, Qena, Sohag, Asyut, Beheira, and Menoufeya.

The means of production and training would be delivered to the beneficiaries whose enterprises are in the fields of cattle and sheep farming, fruit and vegetable selling, retail of herbals and garments among others.
