CAIRO – 5 February 2023: The first meeting between Egypt and Qatar was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs downtown Cairo to discuss regional and international issues of common interest after restoring the relations that were severed in 2017.

 

The meeting was headed by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs Ambassador Alaa Moussa, and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar for Regional Affairs Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi.

 

“The meeting comes in light of the momentum witnessed by the bilateral relations between Egypt and Qatar, and their desire to build on this rapprochement by coordinating and exchanging views on files of common interest,” Youm7 reported.

 

In Mid-December 2022, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli hailed the deep-rooted relations between Egypt and Qatar.

 

This came during his participation in the celebration held on the occasion of commemorating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two Arab states.

 

The celebration was also attended by a number of ministers, officials and ambassadors.

 

The cooperation between both countries after nearly four years of a row between Qatar in one side and Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE from the other side over Qatar’s alleged terrorism sponsorship and its close relations with Iran.

 

In September 2022, al-Sisi headed to Doha for an official two-day visit, the first of this kind to Qatar, in response to an invitation addressed to him by Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, former spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady announced.

 

The visit is the culmination of recent intensive mutual discussions between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening joint bilateral cooperation at all levels, Rady added.
