Egyptian president lays wreath on tomb of Mahatma Ghandi

CAIRO – 25 January 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited Wednesday Raj Ghat, laying wreath on the tomb of Mahatma Ghandi, and writing a word in the guestbook dedicated to high-profile visitors.

"It is my pleasure to visit the tomb of Late Indian Leader Mahatma Ghandi, who made a turning point in human history by representing the principles and values of justice, peace, equality, and violence renouncement, and by his brave patriotic stances as well as his unconditional inclination to the choice of peaceful resistance.

 

The whole world needs to be inspired by those noble principles that contributed to the unity and renaissance of the Indian nation, and that we believe and adopt in Egypt throughout history. Egypt and India share civilizational and historic ties, and are resembling in their commitment to promoting security, peace, and stability as well as backing the efforts of development and prosperity," the Egyptian president wrote.

President Sisi headed Tuesday to New Delhi fulfilling the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a guest of honor in the ceremony held to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the country's Republic Day marking January 26.
