CAIRO – 22 January 2023: Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company Yehya Zakaria announced Saturday that the number of flights between Egypt and China would be raised to 13 starting March so as there will be seven flights to Guangzhou, three flights to Beijing, and three other to Hangzhou.

The first group of Chinese tourists arrived in Cairo on Friday after a three-year hiatus caused by COVID-19, which incurred $15 million worth of drop in revenues for 24 Egyptian travel agencies.

The number of Chinese tourists who were expected to visit Egypt in 2020 was 150,000. However, Chinese tourism to Egypt is likely to recover, since 1,200 Chinese travel agencies are seeking to cooperate with EgyptAir to organize trips, as stated by Zakaria.

On the occasion of the arrival of a plane carrying 137 Chinese tourists on Friday, China’s Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang held a press conference saying that direct flights between Egyptian and Chinese airports would increase soon. He further highlighted that Egypt had been among the first countries to receive Chinese tourists since the coronavirus outbreak.
